Biography: Mr. Liechty was born and raised in the Midwest and came to Colorado in 1970. After graduating from college, he taught at a private school in Steamboat Springs for five years before entering the law. For the first 12 years of his practice, he specialized in civil rights and employment defense. He then spent a year in Ukraine doing legal reform followed by 3 ½ years with the United States State Department, as a diplomat in Argentina and in Costa Rica. Since 2005, he has specialized in plaintiff’s employment matters. Mr. Liechty has tried approximately 60 jury trials, 90% in federal court, and has argued approximately 35 cases to the Courts of Appeals. For examples of his appellate work, see Bristol v. Board of County Commissioners, 312 F.3d 1213 (10th Cir. 2002)(ADA case); EEOC v. Karuk Tribe, 260 F.3d 1071 (9th Cir. 2001)(age discrimination case); Medina v. City and County of Denver, 960 F.2d 1493 (10th 1992)(limiting the reach of 14th Amendment); Specht v. Jensen, 832 F.2d 1516 (10th Cir. 1987)(en banc decision regarding impermissible expert testimony).
